Swapping controllers may not fix the problem, as the driver could attempt to use the new controller in some cases as well.
To fix this, you must disable or uninstall these drivers and, if necessary, install an alternative driver (such as what's included with MotioninJoy or x360ce). And no, it isn't your fault! It is the fault of the drivers you are using with either your controller or keyboard & mouse. Though the traditional buttons are great as-is for the game. Note that you should also make sure to map / remap your controller to what you feel comfortable with if the default settings aren't good for you.
There is no fix / hotfix or patch required. These should two methods should do it for you. If it isn't working, then attempt using MotioninJoy or x360ce again. Now unplug the controller, restart your computer, plug it back in, then try the game. Go to START -> RUN -> devmgmt.msc - then locate your Controller, find the driver, and uninstall it. Try the game AND/OR the MotionJoy / x360ce in ADMIN / Administrator mode (you shouldn't have to, but give it a shot) Uninstall possible offending gamepad drivers Try restarting your computer (AFTER installing one of the above applications + their drivers) then try Sometimes unplugging unnecessary USB items can help too by the way Some people have more luck when they plug their controller in AFTER the game is opened (oddly enough) Still not working? Then god hates you! Just kdding! (I think) Dark Souls Fix Controller If it doesn't work, then continue belowĤ) Copy the included DLL files into the directory with the EXE: xinput1_1.dll, xinput1_2.dll, and xinput1_3.dll
If it doesn't, try the below method.ġ) Download and install x360ce (including the DRIVERS)Ģ) Copy c360ce.exe into your Dark Souls DATA folder where the darksouls.exe is locatedģ) Open the c360ce.exe and once done configuring, try the game out. They both work for EITHER controller so don't worry about the name.Ģ) Start MotioninJoy, go to the drivers tab to select your controller and install the driverģ) Go to the profiles tab, then select Xbox 360 Controller Emulator Try one, then the other (assuming that the first one doesn't help you).
So there are two different drivers / softwares for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 controller emulation that I'm going to recommend.
Hopefully someone else who hasn't figured out how to fix the issue gets helped by this post, but first and foremost I hope someone in the ubisoft office realises that they still have work to do on this product.Okay. Hopefully everything else runs smooth, but I'm not going to wait until then to ask this question. I can't even say if its fully working since I've not played the game yet, I had to do all this work just to control the character from the very beginning of the game. Simply put, I'd like an official response since this game released 2019 since we still have to use the unofficial method. X-Input should be a basic enough feature to support by now, surely? PLEASE do something about this, I understand that I can't actually email you because of COVID-19, but it feels like you've not even looked at this issue and you've let your customers fix the issue for you. My question is, WHY have Ubisoft not fixed this compatibility issue? Its been two and a half years! We have to go through a totally unrelated process to fix your game, and if I'm using Steam to fix a Uplay game I'd rather have the game over there! I am certainly not going to buy a game you've not fixed for a second time. The only fix is to add it as a non-steam game and force controller compatibility with Steam's Big Picture mode. The issue is with your game, not with my hardware. My drivers are accurate and up to date, its a wired gamepad, and officially supported by Microsoft. AC3R is the first game I've ever had an issue with. I'm actually using an Xbox360 (RockCandy) controller which works on legitimately every other launcher I've used, be it Epic, Steam, GOG, Origin, Xbox Cloud, BattleNet. Please note I'm not even using the wireless xbox one controller others had issues with. I was almost about to go back to my xbox360 version which I shouldn't have to do when I own the remaster on your platform. Considering I just finished playing through AC1, AC2, AC:Brotherhood and AC:Revelations, I wasn't about to start learning how to use Keyboard & Mouse for this game.
I'm here to point out that without trawling through the old (now archived) forums, there would have been NO WAY for me to play this game with my controllers. It also isn't recognised in other games such as Far Cry 4 from what I hear in those threads. The issue? Controller is not recognised in AC3 Remaster. You've had multiple forum posts about this in the past, here are the most relevant two:
